Our Approach

All relationships benefit from honest, direct, and compassionate communication. Yet as obvious as this may seem, few of us have been taught how to engage in collaborative, mutually beneficial communication and conflict resolution – skills that are essential to building and sustaining fulfilling relationships!

At Pomegranate, we emphasize guiding principles and practical tools for healthy communication, conflict resolution, and relationship-building.

Whether you are:

  • at the beginning of a new relationship and wanting to ensure its health and longevity;

  • going through a separation or divorce and wanting to approach the transition amicably and peacefully; or,

  • simply wanting to build a variety of relationships - romantic, friendship, familial, professional, et al. - on a foundation of trust and mutual respect;

We look forward to working with you!

Meet the Founders

Hi! We are Erin and Mike, co-founders of Pomegranate Coaching and Mediation.

Early in our relationship as romantic partners, we discovered a mutual nerdy love of conflict resolution and community building. Having both struggled with painful approaches to conflict and divorce in the past, we knew that our shared background in peaceful conflict practices would be a crucial healing tool for us moving forward, both in our own relationship and our relationships with other important people in our lives.

Because our hearts are grounded in LGBTQIA+ and polyamorous communities, we are also well aware of the way social structures and biases can limit a sense of safety and possibility in loving relationships. We are therefore deeply committed to serving people of all orientations and relationship styles.

Our capability in the areas of collaborative communication and fulfilling relationships comes from an appreciation of and reverence for our learned experience — including hardships and stumbles along the way. If our shared knowledge can help you struggle a bit less as you navigate your own path, we’d love to work with you!

    Erin’s educational and professional background comprises two seemingly distinct worlds: she has a Masters degree in Community and Regional Planning; and, she has spent the last two decades teaching therapeutic yoga and strength training, as well as training yoga teachers.

    Her work as a relationship and communication coach is a natural evolution of these two worlds. Erin combines her passion for dispute resolution and community building with her considerable skill set in somatic work, offering holistic coaching that addresses multiple facets of the human experience.

    As a queer and polyamorous person, Erin is dedicated to supporting people who may face bias, misunderstanding, discrimination or the simple lack of a model in building the relationships that nourish them. Her work is not limited to these communities, however; the gifts of collaborative communication are valuable to everyone!

    Mike is an experienced business and non-profit manager. He has a Masters degree in Public Administration and a background in human resources, grants management, and conflict resolution. Mike is also a certified mediator in New Mexico.

    Driven by the belief that communicating needs will illuminate mutual interest, he takes pride in providing kind and creative resolution facilitation. His goals as a mediator include helping clients find their guiding principles and discovering overlapping benefit within previously deadlocked disputes. Mike also offers coaching services and teaches coursework on collaborative communication.

    As a polyamorous man, Mike feels especially grateful for the chance to help other men deconstruct traditional masculinity and find compassion and vulnerability in their relationships. He also feels privileged to engage with thoughtful people of all orientations and relationship structures!

Why The Name Pomegranate?

In Greek mythology, pomegranates play an important role in the story of Persephone and Hades. In an effort to lure her to the underworld, Hades fed Persephone six pomegranate seeds – one for each month of her time in the world below, representing the colder seasons of the year. Based on a deal that Hades made with Persephone’s mother, she spent the remaining half of the year (spring and summer) above ground.

This story can be read in a variety of ways – but the part we like best is Persephone’s ability to traverse both light and dark, fear and hope, pain and joy. Our work intends to make room for a similarly broad experience of being human!

We also love that pomegranates are all seeds: small but potent distillations of potential and hope. We endeavor to bring this energy with us into everything we do.
